HOME -- Protecting Small City Squares Will Strenghten Neighborhood Zoning

City Council approves our neighborhood zoning amendment

Dear New Orleans neighbors,

I am pleased to report the City Council voted 6-0 to approve our neighborhood’s “Small City Square” Zoning Docket 106-04 on February 3, 2005.

This zoning docket was our neighborhood’s grass-roots amendment to the zoning ordinance to protect our City’s small squares, or blocks, from inappropriate, large-scale developments.

We thank Councilmember Oliver Thomas for his leadership in supporting our neighborhood. With his encouragement and guidance, citizens and the City Council cooperated to strengthen and protect neighborhoods throughout the City.

Thank you all for your good wishes and your letters and emails of support. By working together we accomplished something remarkable. This is a win-win situation for everyone.

Sincerely yours,
Sheldon Hersh, MD
